Privacy
Signing in exists so I can tell you about firmware fixes, safety ones in particular. Here is exactly what that involves.
What I store
- Your email address, kept by Amazon Cognito so you can sign in.
- When you first and last signed in, which files you downloaded, and whether you want update emails. These are kept in a database in my AWS account.
- When you accepted the terms of use, which version, and the IP address you accepted them from. This is the record that you agreed to them.
- Standard server logs (IP address, browser) kept by AWS for up to 30 days.
- If you use the contact form, your message is emailed to me with your address so I can reply. It isn't stored on the site.
- If you use remote access (off unless you pair a chamber): which chambers you paired, their names, and what they report every few minutes. That means temperature, humidity, setpoints, which fans, lights and heaters are on, alarms, grow preset and day, firmware version and Wi-Fi signal strength. Readings are deleted after 30 days. Choosing Remove unpairs a chamber straight away, and its readings expire within 30 days. If the camera is linked, the page shows its latest photo. Wi-Fi names and passwords, IP and MAC addresses and the grow name are never sent.
What I don't do
- No analytics, ad trackers or third-party scripts. Fonts are served from this site.
- No selling or sharing your email.
- The flasher runs in your browser. Your chamber backup is saved to your computer and never uploaded.
- By default the firmware contacts beezy.ninja for two things: every 6 hours it checks for firmware updates, sending a random ID the chamber made for itself and its firmware version (so updates can roll out in stages), and once a day it fetches grow recipes, sending nothing about the chamber. You can switch update checks off with its Check for Updates setting. It also asks public internet time servers for the current time.
- Share Diagnostics (off by default) sends the chamber's health readings to beezy.ninja. Reports are deleted after 90 days.
- Anonymous Check-in is a separate switch, also off by default. If you turn it on, the chamber sends beezy.ninja one message a day with a random ID it made itself, the firmware version, and which build it runs. That's how I count how many chambers are still growing. The ID isn't tied to your account, email or hardware, and turning the switch off erases it. I don't store the IP address, and each record is deleted 120 days after its last check-in.
Emails
Update emails are off unless you switch them on, on your downloads page. Every one has an unsubscribe link. Sign-in codes are always sent, because that's how you sign in.
Deleting your account
Sign in and send me a message from the contact form asking me to delete your account. I'll delete your account and download history and confirm by email.
